BETH BLACKERBY
Violin Instructor at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas
Beth began her violin studies at the age of five in Bowling Green, Kentucky; her love of music and playing the violin became the guiding force that ultimately led her to pursue a violin performance career. Beth received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University
of Louisville and gained valuable training experience playing in the Louisville Orchestra.
Later she received her Masters' Degree under the tutelage of Vartan Manoogian at the University of Wisconsin, where she was a fellowship member of the Strelow Graduate String Quartet studying under the Pro Arte Quartet.
After her studies, Beth moved to Europe to pursue an orchestral career and experience music outside the US. Her travels took her to Barcelona, Spain, where she landed a two-year position with the Opera Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Assistant Director of the University of Texas string Project in Austin
When Beth returned to the U.S., her musical passions turned toward pedagogy. She was the Assistant Director of the University of Texas string Project in Austin, an internationally known string education program with an enrollment of over two hundred young students. While building a sizable private teaching studio and playing with several professional organizations in Austin, Beth decided to expand into the realm of teaching adults. She started a chamber music program through Austin Community College, and this experience laid the groundwork and inspiration for the development of her online learning platform, violinlab.com.
Inspiration for more than 20,000 adult learning violinists
Beth’s comprehensive, easy-to-follow program has inspired more than 20,000 adult learning violinists of all levels since 2009.
For more than a decade, Beth and ViolinLab have been at the forefront of teaching violin via high-quality video lessons and other online learning tools. Her life’s mission is to be able to explain the complexities of violin playing in ways that make learning the
violin successful for anyone of any age.
