Chapter 7 Develop Stamina, Chord Technique, and Grand Phrasing

Frédéric Chopin – Polonaise in A♭ major, Op. 53 “Heroic”
Chopin’s famous Polonaise introduces a bold, nationalist style and rich virtuosity. Prof.Ricardo Castro guides the student through the work’s many phases – from the opening heroic octaves to the lyrical middle – emphasizing not just power but control.
Notably, “besides the great energy,” he dedicates special attention to achieving a deep pianissimo even in demanding passages.
This masterclass develops stamina, chord technique, and grand phrasing, showing the intermediate pianist how to project bravura and grandeur while maintaining finesse.
