Rodolphe Kreutzer (1766–1831) was a prominent figure in the Classical period and early Romantic era, particularly in France. As a violinist, conductor, and composer, he was closely associated with the Paris music scene during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a time of significant cultural and political transformation, including the French Revolution and the Napoleonic era.
Kreutzer, a French violinist, composer, and teacher, wrote these etudes while teaching at the Paris Conservatoire, intending to provide comprehensive exercises that could elevate a student's technical precision and musical expressiveness.
