Enkeleida Sheshaj



Enkeleida Sheshaj was born in Tirana, Albania in 1977. Began studying violin when she was 6 years old, in the conservatory of Tirana. She won the national contests in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1990. Then she continued studying with Mr. R. Xhoxhi and when she was 12 she went on tour, as soloist violin and with orchestras in Austria, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Italy.

 In 1994 she was invited by Marcello Abbado to study in Italy, in conservatory G. Verdi, Milan, with Prof. Daniele Gay. And in Italy she participated to the following International Violin Competitions “Rodolfo Lipizer Prize”” (Gorizia - 1993), “Michelangelo Abbado” (Sondrio - 1995 – 3rd prize), “Andrea Postacchini” (Fermo - 1996 - 1997 – 3rd prize). 

A Prestigious Scholarship

In 1995 she won the prestigious scholarship “Dragoni”, in the Milan conservatory. Then in June she was 1st classified in the international competition G.Astaritain Naples, and in October 1995 she was won first prize in a contest organized by the “Scuola Musicale di Milano” in collaboration with Teatro alla Scala. In June 1997 she graduated the G. Verdi conservatory in Milan, with the maximum vote and the “Diploma di maturità musicale”. 

In 2007, Enkeleida received her soloist degree with maximum votes and honors degree at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan. 

Plays in Milano, Italy

In September 1997, she won the 2nd prize in the International contest of Biella (the 1st prize was not awarded) In December 1997 she played as soloist in the Verdi Hall in Milano with the orchestra “G. Cantelli”. 

In June 1998 she won the 2nd prize in the international competition Viotti Valsesia.. In the same year in July she won the 1st prize in the contest Rovere D’oro in S. Bartolomeo al Mare. In September 1998 she won one of the scholarships entitled to M. Ranieri, founded by the Pomeriggi Musicali foundation in Milan.

She attended Masterclasses by Professors Dora Bratchkova, Salvatore Accardo e F. Gulli.    

Working with Orchestras

Enkeleida holds a number of concerts as soloist and in chamber ensemble, with great consensus from critics and audience. She collaborates with many orchestras and also as concertmaster with important conductors like W. Sawallisch, R. Muti, Y. Temirkanov, A. Orizio, S. Accardo, G. G


She regularly plays with the G. Verdi Symphony Orchestra in Milan, and went  with them on tour in France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, USA and Japan. In April 2002 she took concertmaster place in the Cherubini orchestra, directed by R. Muti. 

Recent Music Successes

Since 2006-7 season she played with the Teatro alla Scala orchestra and with the Filarmonica della Scala orchestra, in the 1st violins group. Leida also teaches at the Civic Music School in Corsico (Mi), and collaborates with the Totem association in Magenta, as artistic and musical consultant.

Since 2012 she is working with the Music School of Milan, giving courses about violin technique and orchestral practice.
