Denis Zhdanov was born in Magadan, Siberia. He started his piano studies at 8 and began his cello studies at 11. He studied with Prof. Galina Zubareva in the Central Music School in Moscow. Denis won the International A. Rubinstein competition (Moscow 1997) and was awarded in the same year by the Vladimir Spivakov Foundation.
A First Prize Winner
In 1998, he continued his studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory and was also engaged as a soloist by the UNESCO Foundation, in Moscow. After that, and continuing his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden and the Theather Felix Mandelssohn-Bartholdy in Leipzig, he won First Prize and Audience Prize at the International Brahms Competition and at the International Aram Khachaturian competition.
A Humorous and Dynamic Teacher
He has worked with many great musicians such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Antoni Wit, Yuri Simonov, Gennadi Rojdestvenski, Dmitry Sitkovetsky and Dmitry Yablonsky who had all a huge influence on Denis career. Denis is the first Cellist of the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg. He is a humorous and dynamic teacher with an open mind to his students.
