Born in 1993 in Turkey, Suzan Yanki Karatas began her violin studies at the age of 6 with Ebru Yunkus at Mersin University State Conservatory. She continued her studies with Professor Pelin Halkaci Akin at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory in Istanbul. Graduating as a high honor student in Istanbul, she continues her graduate studies in the USA, at the Stony Brook University as a student of violinist Hagai Shaham and the famous Emerson quartet.
Suzan’s Debut at Age Eleven
Suzan Yanki Karatas made her performing debut at the age of eleven with the Mersin University Academic Chamber Orchestra. Her most recent engagements include solo performances with Kopuz Chamber Orchestra and Mimar Sinan Symphony Orchestra, and a recital at Ayvalik International Music Academy.
Suzan was actively engaged with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra in Turkey. In 2009, she participated in the concert of the German-Turkish Youth Orchestra at the Young Euro Classic Festival in CRR Concert Hall (Turkey) as well as ATTACA orchestra tour in Europe. In 2006, she was chosen to take part in the Dogus Cocuk Symphony Orchestra. As a member of this orchestra, she played various repertoire concerts in established musical events such as Culturescapes (Switzerland) and D-Marine Turgutreis International Festival of Classical Music in Turkey.
Suzan Studies with Great Professors
She participated in various international masterclasses with well known professors such as Shmuel Ashkenasi, Vadim Gluzman, Soovin Kim, Lucas David and Andrej Bielow; and attended chamber music festivals such as: “Mozarteum Summer Academy”, “ISA Music Festival” (Austria) and Opus Erasmus “Pratiquer la Musique Aujourd’hui” (France).
